LSH Election 2016
You have the opportunity to vote on changes to the LSH Bylaws.
All Lions Clubs in MD-4 districts A3 and L1 through L6 are automatically members of the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of Southern CA (LSH). This includes the right to vote in elections for board members and any other matters that may come before the membership.
The election package this year will not include a ballot for candidates. Only five candidates are running for board positions, so there are no contested positions under the current (8 positions) or the proposed (5 positions) change to the bylaws.
To improve the ability of the Board of Directors to function efficiently and from a position of knowledge, we're suggesting a change from two-year to three-year terms for board members.
Seldom do directors join the LSH Board equipped with the experience and skill sets required of a practiced and engaged director. Nonprofit governance and development skills typically need time to blossom.
By changing the term from two years to three years, newly elected directors can spend their first year learning the organization. During the second year, they have the opportunity to better understand their role and they can start to practice what they have learned. Their third year then can be invested in developing relationships that are meaningful and that can have an impact on the growth of LSH toward becoming a legacy foundation.
Please be sure your club votes on the bylaw change and joins us at our 2016 Celebration of Sight and Hearing, Sunday 9/25/16.
