Paris-based Pixium Vision has won approval to introduce its IRIS II bionic vision system in Europe to people suffering from outer retinal degeneration, medgadget.com reports.
The system uses a camera embedded into a special pair of glasses and an implant surgically placed next to the eye.
The camera records an image, which is then converted into electrical signals. The signals are transmitted to the implant that stimulates the nerve cells of the inner retina.
