Keiichi Kimura won the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the London Paralympics in 2012, Asahi Shimbun reports.
The current world record is 57.92 seconds, held by Adam Peaty of Britain. Kimura's best time in the event is 1 minute, 12.28 seconds.
But for Kimura, the Paralympics aren't enough. "My growth will stop if I become content with that feeling and try to use the excuse that I am blind to explain why my time is slower than Olympic athletes," he says.
