A deaf singer will move on to the semifinals of America's Got Talent after a performance judge Simon Cowell called "one of the most amazing things" he'd ever seen or heard, the Associated Press reports.
Mandy Harvey explained to the judges of competition that a connective tissue disorder robbed her of her hearing when she was 18, and recounted how she taught herself to sing again using muscle memory and visual tuners.
She brought along a sign language interpreter who helped her to interact with the judges.
Harvey received a standing ovation from the crowd and the judges while performing her self-written song, "Try," on ukulele.
