The sign-language interpreter who gained fame in 2016 during Hurricane Matthew is back helping South Carolina prepare for Hurricane Irma, The State reports.
Jason Hurdich became a star for his interpretations during then-Governor Nikki Haley’s news conferences when Hurricane Matthew hit South Carolina. Social media loved him. One person called him the “greatest sign language guy ever.”
On Wednesday afternoon, Hurdich accompanied Gov. Henry McMaster at the state's first news conference for Hurricane Irma.
Hurdich is on the faculty at Clemson University, but he is temporarily giving up teaching to help the state again.
