Failed eye test led to cancer diagnosis.
When 7-year-old Brianna Leitten failed an eye screening conducted by her local Lions Club, her parents didn't think it was a big deal at first.
But they took her to an eye doctor and then a retinal specialist, who told them Brianna needed immediate surgery and that she might have cancer.
"We took her to the eye doctor on Saturday — on Tuesday, her eye was removed," Bianna's mother told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. "We had made the right decision, because it was ... retinoblastoma, which is also cancer."
Brianna is headed this week to the United Nations to share her story, and her family has led a fundraising campaign to buy a screening camera for their local Lions Club, which had been using a borrowed camera.
