American Sign Language is thoroughly integrated into The Who's famous rock opera in a new DC-area production, Nelson Pressley, theater critic for the Washington Post, reports.
Deaf actor Russell Harvard, who performed recently in New York’s in Deaf West Theatre's “Spring Awakening,” plays Tommy as an adult. The production depicts the opera's main character at different stages in his life.
"He delivers songs in impassioned ASL while dancing and working in sync with Will Hayes, who sings the part in a vulnerable tenor," Pressley writes.
