Across the world, it's estimated that 150 million people need eyeglasses to lead productive lives, but can't afford them.
Now a German NGO (non-governmental organization) is changing that by providing glasses for only $1.00, as well as training local opticians and providing them with a profession and an income, Deutsche Welle reports.
Alex Armbruster manages the organization. He explains that it trains people to manufacture, prescribe and sell the glasses, "They can make a living and the idea is that we are establishing a social project," he said.
