Michigan State University researcher Andras Komaromy got a phone call 10 years ago from a breeder of Swedish Vallhunds, whose dogs were slowly go blind from a strange retinal disease, CNN reports.
"The hereditary disease appeared to be relatively new. Scandinavian veterinary eye examiners began seeing it in late 1990s."
And similar research on Norweigian Elkhounds is helping to understand the causes for glaucoma.
