The only high school in the Modesto district with a special program for deaf students, Downey High made it to the second round of post-season play last week, according to CBS News.
Players Jed McGuire and Omar Ruiz were born deaf, and Alejandro Lobato lost his hearing in an accident at the age of 5.
Interpreter Kathy Johnson told CBS, “When they’re out on the field, getting their attention, that’s the hardest part. Other than that, I don’t see anything different.”
