“I could hear notes I'd never heard before.”
Carl Kulzer suffered with bad hearing for 30 years, but he couldn't afford a hearing aid. Now in his 80s, he found out about LSH at his local senior center.
"I thought it was too good to be true," he told us.
His new hearing aid brought some revelations: the little tune his washing machine plays when the cycle finishes. He'd never heard it before.
The fact that he could hear someone across the crowded table at lunchtime at the senior center. Or an actor speaking softly in a movie.
Talking to his sister, who lives outside Chicago, on the phone. "I'd say, 'I can't hear you,' and she'd say, 'I'll take you off speaker phone.' Now I can hear her just fine."
But maybe the best was about music. Carl is a passionate amateur clarinet player, and a classical music lover.
"I put on a record of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto," he told us, "and I could hear notes I'd never heard before."
"Is it better? Heck yes, it's much better. It's a gift."
