An eye care company in North Carolina is hoping to correct that. Eye Care Associates recommends five steps to protect your eyesight, WTVD reports.
-- Wear sunglasses to help prevent cancer, eye sunburn, cataracts, and macular degeneration -- all year, not just in the summer.
-- Eat well to see well. That means leafy greens, nuts and shellfish. In the winter months, drink plenty of water to help prevent dry eyes.
-- Look away from the computer screen. Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This will help relax your eyes and prevent eye strain.
-- If you smoke, please quit. Smoking raises the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
-- Get your eyes checked by a trusted optometrist at least once a year.
