Cilla Black played with the Beatles in their early days and was a part of the Liverpool music scene that launched them. Now she has completely lost her hearing.
At 71, the former singer and TV presenter said she was "falling apart" and no longer feels able to work. A cochlear implant did not solve the problem.
"You see on Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor they all wear ear plugs," she told the Daily Mail last week. "But I could not hear myself when I wore them. So that is where the strong voice came from.
"Now I am totally deaf because of the Cavern days."
