Along with her twin sister, Nadinne Bruna has achieved social-media stardom, thanks to natural beauty enhanced by cosmetic surgery.
Their fame led to offers of free procedures. One promised to change the color of her eyes.
Nadinne had to fly to Colombia for the operation, which involved inserting colored silicone implants into her corneas. The procedure is illegal in the United States.
Once doctors removed Nadinne's implants, they could see the damage they had caused.
"All the diseases one can have in the eye, I have them all," she said. "I got so much depression I start to cry and I say to my sister, 'I want to kill myself.'"
She has lost 50 percent of her vision and struggles with painful light sensitivity, but she hopes telling her story will serve as a warning to others.
