Director Alex de Ronde’s Deaf Child has taken the audience prize at this year’s International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), Real Screen reports.
The 30th annual event held its awards ceremony on November 22, and the VPRO IDFA Audience Award was announced on Sunday (Nov. 27).
In the 72-minute movie, the filmmaker looks back on the struggles of his young adult son, Tobias, who was born deaf. Through childhood photos, home movies and conversation, de Ronde questions whether he helped or hindered his son through the choices he made as a parent.
