Until a New Jersey music teacher found him, nobody wanted to adopt Cole. Now he's a superhero, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Chris Hannah, who teaches in Vineland, New Jersey, has a deaf nephew. The boy bonded immediately with the dog and began teaching him commands in sign language.
Hannah's students, inspired by the pair, came up with a superhero saga: "Captain Cochlear and Maestro Mutt." The comic book has just been released, and Cole has been making public appearances to promote it.
"The best thing you learn is accepting those who may be a little different," Hannah said.
