As Alli Bienas, a junior at Delaware Valley College (Pa.), negotiated her way around the ring in the flat class, she had to steal glances away from her horse’s track every few seconds.
Alli's interpreter, Kelly Deibert, stood in the center of the ring to sign directions from the announcer as she rode an unfamiliar mount, The Chronicle of the Horse reports.
Alli was participating in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships this week in West Springfield, MA.
Competitors only find out at the last minute which horse they will ride, and must display good form and control as they perform different movements in a ring crowded with other riders.
A native of Newtown, PA, Alli majors in equine studies and hopes to become a professional after she graduates.
