Feds Crack Down on Stem Cell Clinics Touting Blindness Cure

Two Orange County clinics are accused of misleading marketing.

The Federal Trade Commission has filed a complaint against two stem cell clinics that promoted treatments for everything from blindness to autism to Parkinson’s Disease despite a lack of evidence, STAT reports.

The FTC accused owner Dr. Bryn Jarald Henderson and his clinics of implying or directly saying, with no evidence, that their treatments could help patients with a range of diseases, and for describing their treatments as comparable to or better than approved treatments.

Part of a proposed settlement requires the clinics — Regenerative Medical Group and Telehealth Medical Group — and Dr. Henderson, to stop making such claims and to inform past and current patients about the settlement.

The clinics are both in Orange, Calif., and touted “miracles” made possible by the amniotic stem cells they used. Ads and promotional materials claimed the cells could “reverse autism symptoms” and enabled a “101 year old Lady once blind for 7 years” to see again. The clinics also claimed they could treat cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, and chronic kidney disease.
