The the motto of Lions Clubs is "We Serve," and this week in Ridgecrest, it was much more than a motto.
As of today, clubs in Southern California had raised $20,000 to help victims of the earthquakes in Ridgecrest and Trona, including more than $10,000 in donations from locals -- pretty amazing for a sparsely populated area.
Lion Steven Morgan, an old friend of LSH and a former Lions District Governor, was running a crisis center in Ridgecrest where residents could come for whatever kind of help they needed.
The funds will primarily be used to provide accommodations at local hotels; putting mobile homes back on their foundations; and help to get residents back into their homes.
