The San Bernardino police fielded a text message yesterday from a 52-year-old woman and that sent help her home, Anne Millerbernd reports in the Press-Enterprise.
The woman was taken to St. Bernadine's Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Text-to-911 option been available for less than two weeks.
"This is a huge step toward ensuring the safety of the speech and hearing impaired residents of our communities and also represents a vital mechanism toward getting help to those whose safety would be further jeopardized by audibly calling 911," San Bernardino Police Department Lieutenant Mike Madden said in a news release.
