Robot Restores Vision, a World First
Mechanism can filter out surgeon's hand tremors.
In a world first, surgeons have used a robot to operate inside the eye and restore sight, BBC News reports.
Using the device, a team at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital in the UK removed a membrane one hundredth of a millimeter thick from the eye of patient Bill Beaver, 70, a curate in Oxford.
"It's almost the world of fairy tales, but it's true," Beaver said. "I'm just fortunate that I'm the first to have it."
Surgeons are hoping this procedure will pave the way for more complex eye surgery that is currently impossible with the human hand.
