Born with a hole in her diaphragm, Hayleigh Scott endured multiple surgeries as an infant. They saved her life, but also left her with severe hearing loss.
Her parents, concerned that their child should be viewed as a normal kid, hid her hearing aids behind her hair. But Hayleigh had other ideas. At the age of 5 she began designing charms to dangle from her hearing aids.
"My mom and dad didn't completely understand how what I was drawing would work," Hayleigh recalls. "But as I grew older, my designs became clearer and I was able to better explain my charms for hearing aids."
Her parents contacted a patent attorney and the result is a business called Hayleigh's Cherished Charms.
