Bryan and Bradford Manning both have Stargardt’s disease, a genetic disorder that causes the body to process vitamin A incorrectly, Bloomberg News reports.
The byproducts of the vitamin accumulate on the macula, in the back of the eye, and that results in the loss of central vision. The disease typically starts in childhood.
Bradford and Bryan are now 32 and 26 years old, and both were diagnosed with the disease when they were seven years old.
The brothers have now turned themselves into a clothing brand: Two Blind Brothers. All the profits go to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, a nonprofit that seeks to find treatments and cures for inherited retinal diseases.
Since the company was launched last year, Two Blind Brothers has directed $70,000 to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and another contribution of $30,000 is in the pipeline.
