When buying makeup, most people make decisions based on what makes them look most attractive. But many people don't realize that some makeup contains ingredients that can cause blindness, Bustle.com reports.
There are six main ingredients to avoid if you want to protect your eyes:
Parabens are a widely used preservative in cosmetics, They are inexpensive but can be lethal to your vision.
Ammonia -- surprised? On the label it may be listed as MEA, DEA or TEA.
Lead -- avoid any makeup containing kohl, which is full of lead, as are many products that are knockoffs of popular brands.
Artificial dyes -- anything that claims to permanently dye eyelashes or eyebrows is going to have harmful ingredients.
Glitter -- yes, it's a lot of fun, but it can badly irritate your eyes and in some cases damage your corneas. Not worth it.
Formaldehyde -- it's found in lotions and eyelash glues. Look out for formalin, a water solution with formaldehyde.
